51st Annual Shults Lecture - St. Bernard's

51st Annual Shults Lecture

Nov 6, 2025

5:30PM – 9:00PM

120 French Road | Rochester, NY, and Online via Zoom

The Otto A. Shults Lecture Series on Spirituality was born of the dream of Mr. Otto A. Shults, a faithful and generous advocate of St. Bernard’s Seminary, predecessor of St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry.

Following her husband’s death, Mabel Shults vowed to continue the family’s commitment to theological and ministerial education by endowing this Lecture Series, now in its 50th year.

Each year since 1974, the Lectureship has brought distinguished scholars to St. Bernard’s to address theological topics as they relate to the understanding and practice of ministry in the Church.

We are pleased to welcome this year's lecturer, Fr. Richard Veras, who will offer a consideration of the seminal importance of the pastoral minister's experience of being loved and chosen by God in his lecture titled:

"Unless You Become Like Children: Pastoral Ministry Generated by the Father"

Fr. Richard Veras is the Director of Pastoral Formation and Assistant Professor of Homiletics at Saint Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie). In addition to seminary formation, Fr. Veras has served the Archdiocese of New York as an associate and a pastor in parish ministry, and as a teacher and chaplain in high school ministry. He is the author of Jesus of Israel: Finding Christ in the Old Testament, Wisdom for Everyday Life from the Book of Revelation, and The Word Made Flesh: Foreshadowed, Fulfilled, Forever. He is a long-time contributor to "Magnificat" magazine and has preached parish missions throughout the U.S. He has conducted retreats for priests, religious and seminarians, as well as for the NY State Bishops.
