Synodality and the Meaning of the Church - St. Bernard's

Synodality and Co-Responsibility: On the Mission of the Church Today

The current three-year Synod on Synodality (2021-2024) is well underway; it is a wonderful opportunity for all to reflection upon communion, participation, and mission in the Church. This talk explores the roots of synodality in the vision of the Church throughout the centuries, as expressed particularly in the Second Vatican Council and the recent pontificates of Pope St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. The talk will also suggest that the mission of the Church today is more relevant than ever: to proclaim a universal call to holiness to all people and a co-responsibility for evangelization among all the baptized, with a vision of gifts and roles in the Church that presupposes a symphonic expression of divine love in the world.
