Celebrating St. Bernard's New Vice President

Feb 1, 2022

Stephen Loughlin, President

It is with great joy that I announce our beloved Academic Dean, Dr. Matthew Kuhner, has been promoted to the role of Vice President of St. Bernard’s!

Dr. Kuhner has worked tirelessly these past four and a half years in not only providing and ensuring our school’s academic and ministerial excellence as Academic Dean, but also in advancing St. Bernard’s to new levels of growth both on the local and national scale. In his role as Academic Dean these past three years, Dr. Kuhner has shown himself time and again to be a natural administrator, one that St. Bernard’s is so blessed to enjoy. His good will, strategic mind, dedication to the mission and vision of St. Bernard’s, and most importantly his charity make him well suited to this dual position, one that is vital to St. Bernard’s as we enter into a period of tremendous growth.

Dr. Kuhner earned his Masters in Theological Studies at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family in Washington, D.C., and completed his Ph.D. in systematic theology at Ave Maria University in Florida. For the past three years, Dr. Kuhner has served as St. Bernard’s Academic Dean and Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology. His academic work has appeared in Harvard Theological Review, Nova et Vetera, Angelicum, the Journal of Theological Studies, Pro Ecclesia, and the Journal of Jesuit Studies, and his areas of research interest include Christology and the theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar.

This promotion marks a new chapter in St. Bernard’s history – a testament to our school’s recent advancement and growth. Dr. Kuhner’s promotion to this newly established position comes in answer to the many new responsibilities and opportunities that have emerged as a result of our growing student body and presence in Catholic higher education. We are indebted to Dr. Kuhner for all he has done in advancing our institution to this point and look forward to assisting him in his new role as Vice President and Academic Dean.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kuhner and celebrating this new milestone for our school!

Yours in Christ,

Stephen Loughlin, Ph.D.
