*A10  Introduction To Scripture
The Bible is one of the cornerstones of Christian faith.  It is the basis for Church teaching as well as liturgical celebrations.  This course is a basic introduction to the form and content of the Bible. We will explore the structure and development of the Old and New Testaments as well as the variety of interpretative frameworks used in Biblical study today.  Introduction To Scripture is intended for those who have limited, or no, formal training in Biblical Study.

*A20  Conversations with Leaders of the Early Church: Paul, Prisca, Phoebe, Junia and Lydia
From the very beginning, from the first tiny Christian cells in people’s homes, women were leaders of the early church(es).  In this course, we will explore and encounter the world of Paul and his female colleagues in ministry… including Prisca, Junia, Phoebe, and Lydia.  Through the most accurate Scripture scholarship available today and through storytelling and conversation, we will see and experience some snapshots of our earliest roots.  And we will consider what those snapshots can offer us today regarding leadership in ministry.

*C10  Introduction To Theology
When humanity begins to reflect on the meaning of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit it begins to engage itself in the task of theology.  This course presents a brief overview of the basic components of theology.  We will review method, revelation, use of scripture, and the role theology plays in the Church today.

The Catholic life is guided by foundations of behavior that have come down to us from theology, scripture and philosophical reflection. This course explores the basic principles underlying the Catholic moral life. We will examine the role of the Church, individual conscience, and social custom as they inform and guide the Catholic perspective on morality. This course is required for those seeking a Certificate in Catechetical Leadership, Youth Ministry and Pastoral Ministry

*C17  Church And Sacraments
This course focuses on the nature of the Church and the theology of sacramental life that flows from Jesus’ command to “Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19).  Through readings, discussion, lectures and reflection on participants’ own ecclesial settings, the course also provides a context for evaluating contemporary issues and controversies affecting the life of the local and universal church.

As a society of believers committed to advancing the Kingdom of God, the Church has a system of law to guide and implement its mission in the world. This introductory course in Canon Law is intended for those who wish to understand the foundation and history of law within the Church and how that law is implemented based on the 1983 Revised Code of Canon Law. This course is required for those seeking a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry or as Parish Business Manager.

D13 History of Christian Spirituality
Throughout western history there have a variety of ways in which Christians have understood their relationship to God, Jesus, prayer and the Church. This course will explore the variety of ways in which spirituality has been understood through history. We will survey the major trends that have shaped a contemporary quest for an understanding of the spiritual life.

*D25  The Meaning and Art of Spiritual Direction
The hunger for a deeper connection to the spiritual life has increased the demand for spiritual directors  among Catholics. This course will introduce the student to the history and meaning of spiritual direction. It is designed for those are interested in learning more, as well as for those who are discerning their own call to this ministry

E10   Orientation to Ministry
Ministry is the public activity of a baptizer follower of Jesus on behalf of a specific Christian community to witness, serve and realize the Kingdom.  This course will explore the origins and development of Christian ministry as it impacts the Church today.  Orientation To Ministry is designed for those who have no formal theological training but may have been involved as a volunteer in their parish or faith community.  Orientation to Ministry is required for all those in the Certification Program.

E38 Unearthing the Treasures Within Yourself with the SAGE-ING®  Program
The Sage-ing Program invites participants to 'harvest their wisdom" from life experiences. You will expand your image of aging.  You will understand your Life Cycle and affirm and appreciate your later years.  You will embrace the elasticity of time—it always stretches understanding forgiveness as a gift you give yourself. You will embrace mortality, creating peace of mind by having your house in order.  You will think about what is important to you and ways to share those ideas with future generations. You will explore ways that elders can serve and mend the planet.  The Sage-ing Program is open to people of all ages.

E61  The Roman Missal – Development and Upcoming Revisions
The Roman Missal is the liturgical guide for the celebrations of the Eucharist throughout the world.  The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops recently approved substantial language changes to the English translation of the Missal that has been in use for almost 40 years.  This course explores the history and development of the Roman Missal, as well an examination of the projected changes.

*E82 Parish Management
Human Resource Management is a vital component of today’s contemporary parish. This course focuses on developing human resource skills needed for employers who are also stewards of the Catholic  tradition. We will look at parish and diocesan policies for HR management as well as employment law, conflict management, and strategies for effective communication. (Required for Business Managers.)

E 87  Financial Operations III
This is the third in a series of courses for those seeking a Certificate as Parish Business Manager.  This course familiarizes the student with the standardized financial practices used throughout the Diocese of Rochester, with an emphasis on the parish accounting practices, IRS regulations, and Diocesan reporting requirements.  Financial Operations III will review material begun in Courses I and II, however Financial Operations I and/or II are  not  prerequisites for this particular course.
