A342 Ministry, Gender and Church Order: The Pastoral and Catholic Epistles (Heyman)
This course explores these often overlooked books of the Bible: the Letters of John, Peter, the Timothy-Titus correspondence, as well as Jude and Hebrews. Through an in-depth analysis we will explore Church order; the role of gender and the development of ministry, as well as orthodoxy and heresy within the early Church as they impact contemporary preaching and ministry.

D389 Competencies for Parish Ministry (Schwartz)
This course will explore the competencies pertaining to parish ministry. Topics to be considered include: cultural context of parish ministry, meaning of being a mission driven parish, social justice, parish governance, collaboration among parish staff, empowerment of the community of the baptized, and discernment of one’s giftedness. The importance of parish ministry in the life of the Church, and the vitality of parish ministry will be critically examined.

The course will explore key themes and practical elements of spirituality by drawing upon some classic works in the history of western Christian spirituality.

C368 Special Topics in Suffering (Hawkins)
This course will explore five key areas in the theology of suffering, and look at how these areas impact the doctrine of God. The topics to be explored are the Job question and the pathos of God, The Holocaust as a challenge to classical theology, the concept of the void and 9/11, as well as process theology. Various methods will be used in the course: student led discussion, lecture, media, oral presentations, and written work.

An historical, theological and pastoral examination of the process of achieving Christian identity: conversion and faith development, the catechumenate, the role of faith, community, the initiation sacraments of baptism, confirmation and eucharist.

D392 Conflict Resolution in Life & Ministry (Mahoney)
This course will look at the nature of conflict, the opportunities for developing spiritual and emotional intelligence in the face of challenge, and strategies for achieving and maintaining wholeness and wellness in times of change. The course will also focus on developing insights and skills in understanding and resolving conflicts in life and ministry.

Disability Awareness and Ministry (Tanchick)
A perspective on the exclusion, discrimination and marginalization of individuals with disabilities. Real world simulation of experiencing a disability. How to make personal plans and decisions on being inclusive in your community and ministry both in attitude and actions.
