Scholarships and Financial Aid

St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry recognizes the significant financial expense of graduate education.  Furthermore, St. Bernard’s is concerned that no student be prevented from pursuing theological education for financial reasons.  In order to assist students who are otherwise unable to bear the full financial burden of graduate study, St. Bernard’s offers several forms of financial assistance:

   

Rochester Students

  • Tuition Assistance

A.   Aid in the form of tuition assistance is awarded by St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry to cover 25% of the tuition cost for one or more courses taken during the academic year.

B.   Roman Catholic students residing in the Diocese of Rochester are eligible for tuition assistance from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.  Same deadlines apply. This aid covers up to 33% of the tuition cost for one or more courses taken during the academic year.  Please note:  applications for Diocesan assistance are processed by St. Bernard’s, however, decisions regarding Diocesan assistance awards are the responsibility of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester and are in no way under the control of St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry.

New applications are due no later than April 1 for Summer, August 1 for Fall and December 1 for  Spring

  •  Scholarships

    Scholarships are given to cover tuition costs for full- or part-time study during an academic year.  Applications for scholarships are due on April 15th for the following academic year.  All students studying at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry are eligible for these scholarships, except as noted below:

Albany Students

  • Tution Assistance

Roman Catholic students residing in the Diocese of Albany are eligible for tuition assistance from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.  This aid covers up to 33% of the tuition cost for one or more courses taken during the academic year. 

Please note:  applications for Diocesan assistance are processed by St. Bernard’s.  Albany Diocesan tuition assistance awards are determined by St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry.

All Students

Students may apply for long-term, low-interest loans through the Stafford Federal Loan program.  Loans are negotiated through a local bank of each student’s choosing.  

The U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs are the largest source of student aid in America, providing nearly 70% of all student financial aid. Help is available to make education beyond high school financially possible for you or your child.

Students may arrange with the Business Office for a payment plan with a fixed number and duration of installments.

  • VA Benefits

    Educational benefits in the form of outright grants are available for full- or part-time study for veterans, the spouse or child of a deceased/disabled veteran or those in the National  Guard/ Reserve
