Certification Program - Rochester

Program Overview
-----------------------------------------------------------

 What Is Certification Program?

The Certification Program shares in St. Bernard's  two-fold mission: To educate men and women for ministry in a changing church and diverse society and to provide a center for understanding and integrating the living faith of the church and the experience of believers.  This program is designed to engage in that mission with those students who are not pursuing a graduate degree.

How Does One Enter the Program?

1. Request an application packet from St. Bernard’s  Certificate Program Director.

2. Complete and return the application with a check for $20 (made payable to St. Bernard’s ) to the Certificate Program Office at St. Bernard's.

3. Allow adequate time for receipt of the completed packet, then schedule an appointment with the Director of the Certificate Program to assess past training and pastoral experience.

4. In consultation with the Certificate Program Director, formulate an individual study plan for the intended designated ministry.

How Is the Program Organized?

· Courses

Programs consist of a series of 10-hour courses comprised of four or five sessions.  Courses are held at a variety of times and locales for maximum flexibility.   In Monroe County, courses are held at St. Bernard's .  Finger Lakes and Southern Tier courses are held at a number of sites when demand dictates.  St. Bernard’s  prints brochures for the fall, spring and summer semesters containing detailed information about course offerings.

· Curriculum

Each certificate program consists of a number of required courses appropriate to the designated ministry as well as a number of elective courses.  Program requirements are listed on individual checklists, available upon request.

·  Disciplines

Areas of study include scripture, theology, ministry skills, education and spirituality.

·  Cost

Tuition for each Program course is $100.

How Long Does It Take?

While the program is self-paced, it is expected that certificate students will complete their program within seven years. In the limited instances where documented past training and experience closely parallel required coursework, students may petition that advanced standing be granted; if granted, advance standing can shorten the time of study required for certification.
